Hello

My name is Francis Zhou. I’m a composer and electric bass player, passionate about progressive metal and blending its powerful, intricate elements with classical music traditions. Currently pursuing a Master’s in Composition at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, I strive to create innovative works that explore the intersection of rock, metal, and classical influences.

My Story

This website was created as part of my digital archiving research project, inspired by my passion for the history of prog rock. I’ve always been captivated by the genre’s development over time, and I wanted to create something that traces its roots and evolution in a way that’s both immersive and accessible. An online archive felt like the ideal medium—open and easy to use, it enables anyone to engage with this history, share their own discoveries, and learn about the music I love.

By bringing together historical materials, interviews, and critical analyses, I hope to provide a more comprehensive way for visitors to understand how prog rock evolved. I want this site to inspire people, give them a clear sense of the genre’s journey, and encourage them to explore its rich legacy. While I’ll continue to update the site over time, I also recognize its limitations. This archive is a living, growing project—one that reflects my ongoing dedication to preserving and sharing the fascinating history of prog rock.
